WE GOT TROUBLE...RIGHT HERE IN RIVER CITY! The Music Man is presented as part of our MainStage season, and features some of the most talented professional actors in Chicago, in addition to a large cast of youth and teen actors. Six-time, Tony Award-winning The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. The musical score contains a whole list of musical theatre standards, like “Gary, Indiana,” “Trouble in River City,” “Lida Rose,” and “Seventy-Six Trombones.” THE MUSIC MAN will include auditioned and non-auditioned youth & teen ensemble and supporting characters, training alongside professional adults and performing in the shows.
